“My early love of baking with my grandmother and a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management at WSU, led me to open my first Calico Cupboard in 1981 in La Conner. With the help of my long time General Manager, Brenda Schmidt, two more Calico Cupboard locations came latter in Anacortes and Mount Vernon. After being in the business for many years, we had acquired a repertoire of recipes and ideas too large for the menu at the Calico Cupboard. This led us to opening Seeds Bistro & Bar when the Tillinghast Seed Company location became available so that those wonderful recipes could be put to use. The location couldn’t be passed it up! My love for the old seed company building and its history was a perfect spot for me to highlight foods prepared from the harvests of the Skagit Valley.” ~Linda Freed~ owner
