Our History
A Word From Linda
You’ve probably heard that old saying,”that so and so has a white thumb.” Well that’s me! As a young girl I spent a lot of time baking with my grandmother, who was a school baker, and with my mom, who made some great pies. It wasn’t long before I was baking my own masterpieces and experimenting with different recipes. My early love of baking and cooking lead me to major in Hotel and Restaurant Management at WSU, with summers spent baking at various restaurants. After graduating I worked for Sky Chef working out of their Tulsa location for about a year. Then, came marriage to my college sweetheart Rod, birth of our daughter Hilary and a short career in real estate. I opened my first restaurant, The Calico Cupboard Café and Bakery in 1981. I was the baker and cook in those days. A second Calico was opened in Anacortes in 1992, followed by Mount Vernon in December 1996. Seeds Bistro and Bar located in the historical Tillinghast Seed Company’s original building in 2004. I have two beautiful grandchildren, Hadley and Hudson. My hobbies are spending time with my horses and participating in cutting horse competitions. Cooking is still a passion for me, as well as interior decorating. Life is good!
